India skipper Rohit Sharma confirmed the inclusion of the Jaiswal and Rana in the playing XI at the coin toss after the England captain called it right, and opted to bat first.

Rohit also confirmed that Virat Kohli was unavailable for the first game due to a knee injury sustained during training.

“Jaiswal and Harshit are making their debuts, unfortunately Virat isn't playing, he had a knee problem last night,” Rohit said at the toss.

The 23-year-old Jaiswal had previously made his first Test and T20I appearance for India during the West Indies’ tour in 2023.

23-year-old Rana made his Test debut during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, before earning his T20I cap against England last week.
