Punjab Police personnel deployed in the security of Arvind Kejriwal, national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), have been withdrawnlucky sprite, as confirmed by Punjab’s Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav. 

The decision follows the directions of Delhi police and the Election Commission ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.

Yadav clarified that while the Punjab Police regularly shares reports on security threats to both Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Kejriwal, the recent withdrawal of security was in line with directions from Delhi authorities

“Following the directions of the Delhi Police and the Election Commission today, we withdrew the component of the Punjab Police in the security of Kejriwal ji,” Yadav said in a statement to the press on Thursday.

He also reassured that despite the change in security personnel, the Punjab Police will remain in contact with the Delhi Police and continue to share any relevant information regarding potential threats.

The timing of the move, two weeks before Delhi assembly polls, is raising questions,ph11 particularly as both Kejriwal and Mann, who have been at the forefront of the AAP’s election campaign, are seen as key figures in the electoral contest.

Kejriwal alleges ‘Amit Shah ordered an attack on his car’

Arvind Kejriwal levelled serious allegations against the Delhi Police, accusing them of allowing an attack on his car by opposition party workers at the behest of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Kejriwal, speaking at a public meeting in Hari Nagar, claimed that the police had permitted men affiliated with opposition candidates to disrupt his campaign and attack his vehicle.

“The police allowed the opposition candidate’s men to enter my public meeting and then attacked my car. All this is happening on Amit Shah’s orders,” Kejriwal stated in a social media post after the incident. He further criticized the Election Commission for not taking decisive action in response to the growing attacks on AAP leaders during the election campaign, accusing it of failing to protect political leaders from violence.

While there has been no immediate response from the BJP or Delhi Police regarding Kejriwal’s accusations, tensions between AAP and BJP have been escalating ahead of the February polls. Both parties have exchanged multiple allegations of interference and violence during the election campaign, with each accusing the other of using unfair tactics.
