November 3 – New Zealand’s Miraculous 3-0 Sweep In IndiaNew Zealand achieved the impossible, conquering the final frontier, with a stunning 3-0 sweep against India in the latter’s own backyard. It was the first instance of India being whitewashed at home in a Test series of three or more matches. India were blanked in a Test series (two or more matches) at home only once before - 2-0 by South Africa in 2000.
It was the first home series defeat for India in 12 years – their last defeat came against England in 2012! India had won a record 18 successive home series in this period.
While Rachin Ravindra and the New Zealand pace trio were the stars on a seamer-friendly wicket at the Chinnaswamy in the series opener, Mitchell Santner returned with 13-157 in Pune – the third-best bowling figures for an overseas bowler in a Test match in India. Ajaz Patel repeated his heroics at the Wankhede and picked 11 in the match to ensure a clean sweep for New Zealand.
Will Young showcased great temperament and technique against a world-class Indian spin unit and was adjudged the Player of the Series – he scored 244 runs which included two under-pressure fifties in Mumbai.
The New Zealand spinners outclassed their more famous Indian counterparts in the series and returned with a better bowling average and strike rate – a rare achievement for overseas slower bowlers on Indian shores in Test cricket.
November 25 – India Shock Australia At PerthIndia produced a performance for the ages, hammering Australia by 295 runs in the first Test of the 2024-25 Border Gavaskar Trophy at Perth. Jasprit Bumrah, the stand-in-captain in the absence of Rohit Sharma, produced an inspirational spell with the ball after his side were bowled out for 150 in the first innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli then piled on the hundreds as India took control and dominated the match thereafter. Australia, set a mammoth 534, were dismissed for 238 in the fourth innings, giving India a massive win and an early advantage in the series.
November 10 – Pakistan Win First ODI Series Down Under Since 2002Pakistan achieved a rare ODI series win in Australia, overcoming the hosts 2-1 with big wins in Adelaide and Perth. Haris Rauf was the standout player for Pakistan and bagged 10 wickets in the three-match series. He ran through the Australian middle-order at the Adelaide Oval, routing the home team for 163 and returned with figures of 5-29.
He was again adjudged the Player of the Match in the decider at Perth where he got the two important wickets of Matthew Short and Glenn Maxwell and triggered an Australian collapse which saw the hosts folding for a paltry 140. Pakistan’s last ODI series win in Australia came way back in 2002.
The first quarter started off on a very strong note for South Korea as they displayed a very attacking brand of hockey. Jihun Yang also converted a penalty corner to give them the lead.
November 24 – The Lowest Total In T20I Cricket, AgainJust two months after Mongolia were skittled for 10 by Singapore – which was the joint-lowest team total in T20I history, Ivory Coast folded for 7 against Nigeria in the ICC T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Africa Qualifier in Abuja. As many as seven batters were dismissed for a duck as Nigeria registered a massive 264-run victory – the third-biggest in terms of runs in T20I history.
November 15 – India Reach Unprecedented Heights In T20Is In 2024India signed off a remarkable year in T20I cricket in some style, hammering South Africa 3-1 in a four-match away series. India blasted two 280-plus totals in the year which were the two highest team scores by a top-10 nation in T20I history.
They won 24 of their 26 encounters for a win percentage of 92.3% - the highest win percentage for a team not only in 2024 but any calendar year. India won five bilateral series in the year with the icing on the cake being their sensational triumph at the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean.
